Injection Molding Technician

Location: Erie , PA
Job ID: 5132

Shift Details: Monday-Friday 11:00 pm -7:30 am

$25-$32 Hrly/ Plus shift differential

Purpose of the Role

This position is responsible for safely and efficiently performing preventive maintenance, tooling changeovers, and mold repairs on injection molds. By ensuring maximum reliability and uptime, this role plays a critical part in meeting customer expectations and driving key plant metrics such as production efficiency.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled weekly and monthly preventive maintenance to keep molds and tooling in top operating condition.
  • Conduct in-press mold maintenance and “Check and Make Ready” preparations as per schedule.
  • Repair injection molds to ensure optimal performance, including work on electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic systems, and hot runner systems.
  • Troubleshoot mold-related issues and identify root causes (e.g., core problems, sticking parts, hydraulic cylinder failures, water leaks), collaborating with other departments as needed.
  • Maintain proper surface finishes on molding components for consistent part release.
  • Read blueprints and machine mold components from tool steel and aluminum.
  • Set up CNC mills, standard mills, and lathes for machining mold components.
  • Disassemble molds and hot runners for periodic maintenance and repairs.
  • Share knowledge and train team members on new skills and best practices.
  • Adhere to all safety and quality standards while completing work.
  • Accurately complete all required documentation.

Qualifications & Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 3+ years of experience in injection molding.
  • Proficient in hot runner system repairs, especially valve gate systems.
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills with the ability to resolve issues quickly.
  • Solid mechanical aptitude and working knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Skilled in operating lathes, mills, CNC machines, cranes, and rigging.
  • Forklift certification and overhead crane experience.
  • Experience with large molds (40,000–90,000 lbs.) and stack molds.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical wiring for sensors and switches.
  • Familiarity with hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Understanding of mold building materials, surface finishes, tolerances, and design principles.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
