Purpose of Role
The Safety & Quality Technician will be responsible for ensuring that customer expectations are met for all products and services provided by the facility. They will perform in-process inspections and follow established safety behaviors and procedures. The technician must understand the quality and safety-related work throughout all departments that will drive the continuous improvement of our systems and processes.
Areas of Accountabilities
• Ensure delivery of individual customer expectations for the products and services provided by the facility.
• Perform in-process inspections and follow established safety behaviors and procedures.
• Understand the quality and safety-related work throughout all departments, which will drive the continuous improvement of our systems and processes.
• Act as the front end of product check to improve the quality standards of products.
• Work collaboratively with Manager in performing any additional testing needed during investigations.
• Resist non-conforming products and drive any resulting decisions to deposition.
• Address any product defects occurring during the production run and communicate updates regularly.
• Help the Quality Manager maintain the Food Safety program and ensure the Sample Rack is fully stocked.
• Be part of the Safety team to improve safety awareness in the plant and help enforce safety directives.
• Assist with monthly safety huddles and ensure that all employees are aware of and trained on new safety policies and procedures.
• Perform regular inspections of equipment and document safety data through the use of Velocity platform.
• Act as a resource on the plant floor and assist employees who have safety questions or concerns.
• Support new product development projects launched within the facility to ensure customer expectations identified.
• Follow defined specifications for our products and help enforce adherence to them in production.
• Ensure all finished goods meet customer and internally defined expectations.
• Assist Manager in implementing programs towards Sustainability and Environmental controls.
• Assist the local team in Lean projects to improve quality and safety awareness.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
• High School Diploma, GED, or comparable work-related experience preferred.
• Familiarity with inspection hand tools such as calipers, micrometers, and check fixtures.
• Solid understanding of quality inspection, quality system principles, and process evaluation techniques.
• Some knowledge of Industrial Safety Practices such as OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration), EPA (Environmental Protection Agency), etc.
• Effective written, verbal, and email communication skills.
• Must be able to understand and perform basic math functions.
• Able to correctly read dials, gauges, mechanical indicators, and take appropriate action to ensure equipment is working correctly.
• Computer literate with MS Word, MS Excel, Outlook, and web-based programs preferred.
• Ability to perform and complete complex tests, tasks, and functions using various instruments and equipment.
• Hands-on position: Must be able to consistently stand, walk, perform repetitive motion, bend, twist, and lift up to 40 pounds frequently throughout the duration of the shift.
