Purpose of Role
The purpose of the Shipping Associate is to sustain accurate inventory counts and justify discrepancies, audit inventory on a regular basis, keep an organized / clean warehouse, communicate to the shifts product locations, assist other departments when called upon, and train select personnel shipping procedures.
Areas of Accountabilities
· Actively be a part of the Lean Initiatives through 5s and looking for ways to drive out waste within the company.
· Visually inspect all outgoing product for quality assurance prior to shipping.
· Inventory – Accurate inventory after each inbound and outbound shipment. Daily counts must match our computer systems inventory on a shift-to-shift basis.
· Audit inventory on a daily basis as directed by the Materials/Shipping Manager.
· Outbound and Inbound paperwork processed properly.
· Accurate records of inbound and outbound shipments. (Logs)
· Ability to read and write emails. Clear, concise communication whether verbal or written.
· Maintain a clean, organized warehouse at all times. (Empty garbage, sweep floors, change light bulbs, etc)
· Enforce the safety policies of the company; wheel chocks on trailers, fire exits clear, forklift inspections complete, fire extinguishers / hose hook –up not blocked, safety glasses policy, and the immediate notification of any safety hazards to a Supervisor.
· Give the Production Group the locations where all finished goods are to be placed. Be specific by row or location. Be the manager of the warehouse organization.
· Mandatory overtime during the busy shipping times; back to school, Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc. Must be able to work flexible hours during the busy times.
· Training- responsible for the training of all people who ship out or receive product. Educate the production people on the way product should be organized in the warehouse and why? Example: The label location on a skid.
· Assist in the Production Group when shipping in slow. Cut breaks, etc.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
· Must be able to occasionally work a 6 day work week to help cover vacations and personal days as needed.
· Able to lift 25-50 pounds repetitively throughout the shift.
· Capable of safely driving a forklift almost all day.
