Supplier Quality Engineer

Location: Los Angeles, CA

Purpose of Role

The Supplier Quality Engineer is responsible for supporting stakeholder needs from Procurement, New Product Development, Manufacturing Operations, Safety, and Quality Assurance. This individual will develop testing standards and procedures that will ensure all DS products meet or exceed industry standards. They will identify risks and issues through analysis and durability testing of warranty return parts as well as new products being developed.

Areas of Accountabilities

Lead supplier quality processes

  • Align all current DS products to an industry standard and become the trusted advisor for all RPC testing needs.
  • Work within our RPC supply base to set/approve new testing standards.
  • Create internal testing standards (Documents/Process/Feedback)
  • Support NPD on the development of product requirements.
  • Collaborate with Logistics Solutions to ensure cross functional testing resources are being utilized.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to understand failure trends, and work with supply base to report corrective actions along with implementation dates.

Develop and execute new product validation testing

  • Support the development of all new product testing requirements based off design and application.
  • Coordinate testing for prototype and first article samples with supply base or an outside lab.
  • Provide on-site support at domestic and international suppliers during prototype and production builds.
  • Create standards for testing top failures and provide weekly updates on improvement activities
  • Work with RPC supply base on implementation of corrective actions found during the above activity.
  • Communicate monthly to stakeholders on current trend items identified and activity to correct those items.

Field Service Support

  • Support in field analysis at customer sites to gain knowledge of any premature failures.
  • Perform teardown analysis of returned parts to understand root cause and help develop countermeasures.
  • Develop durability testing standards and procedures that align with RPC warranty requirements.
  • Work with RPC supply base on continuous improvement for DS components to ensure they are meeting or exceeding industry standards for durability.
  • Supports ECR implementation by working with NPD on design changepoints based off durability requirements/results.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • B.S. Degree in Engineering or formal certification in Quality Management
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing quality engineering role with at least 3 years’ experience in a dedicated testing role.
  • Experience in testing standards and reporting (ASTM preferred)
  • Experience with Quality standards (ISO9001 ,IATF 16949, VDA 6.0 or comparable)
  • Experience with firsthand technical analysis.
  • Experience as a project lead/manager for new product implementations into manufacturing (internally or suppliers)
  • Advanced experience applying statistical process control techniques to evaluate and improve process performance.
  • Advanced RCCA skills and understanding of DFMEA and PFMEA
  • Excellent communicator (verbal & written) and an ability to summarize and communicate information clearly.
  • Must be able to travel internationally up to 70% of time.

The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Rehrig Pacific, compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $90.000.00 to $110,000.00.
